Local Area Information - Mercer Island

Mercer Island is situated on Lake Washington, close to both downtown Seattle and Bellevue, two major business hubs. Since the floating bridge was built in the early 1940s on what has now become Interstate 90, Mercer Island is an easy commute to these nearby business districts.

Besides the commute, the excellent schools are listed one of the primary reasons that people choose to live on Mercer Island. Students here frequently rank among the top in the state, and around 90% of graduating high school students attend post-secondary education.

Because of these characteristics, and the fact that Mercer Island is only about three-and-a-half miles wide and five miles long, property here is highly desirable--houses are valued at between a couple hundred thousand to multi-million. The style is primarily contemporary and custom-built Pacific Northwest, with open spaces and large windows to catch the beautiful views of Lake Washington, the Olympic Mountains to the west, the Cascade Mountains to the east, and Mount Rainier to the south.
